About the font Petersburg Italic Cyrillic

Petersburg Italic Cyrillic is a high-contrast italic in the Didone or Bodoni tradition: hairline serifs and joins, thick shaded downstrokes, a narrow, elegant slant and a refined, bookish rhythm. The sample shows complete capitals, lowercase, figures and punctuation with a graceful ampersand, and the listing gives Cyrillic, Latin and Russian sets in the same drawing.

The name recalls imperial St Petersburg, and the style suits that tone: fashion and cosmetics, jewellery, opera and theatre posters, magazine headlines, wedding stationery and literary covers. It is a display italic, so use it at medium and large sizes where the thin lines stay sharp; at small sizes and on rough paper the hairlines vanish. For running text, use it in short quotations or as emphasis next to an upright roman.
