About the font DS Init Normal

DS Init Normal by Nikolay Dubina (D-Studio, Moscow) is a set of decorative initials: each capital letter sits inside a small ornate square frame with a patterned, engraved-looking border. The set shows capitals and figures only, set in boxes of the same size, with a Cyrillic alphabet included; no lowercase is shown.

It brings to mind the drop caps of old manuscripts and books, or tiles on a board game. It is made for single initial letters at the start of a paragraph, monograms, signs, labels and letter-by-letter titles at a large size. As running text it would be unreadable, because every letter carries its own frame.
