About the font Ubuntu Light Italic

Ubuntu Light Italic is the light slanted style of the Ubuntu typeface, designed by Dalton Maag for the Ubuntu operating system around 2010 and 2011. It is a humanist sans with gently rounded terminals, a slightly narrow build and open shapes. The italic is a true italic rather than a sheared roman, with a single-storey a and lively lowercase forms. The preview covers Latin and Cyrillic and a full set of figures and punctuation.

The tone is friendly, calm and modern, with a thin stroke that stays clear on screens. It suits interface text, captions, quotations, presentations and any text that needs a soft emphasis next to the upright Ubuntu styles. At very small sizes the thin line can look pale on low-contrast backgrounds, so raise the size or the contrast.

The project is ongoing, and we expect the family will be extended to cover many written languages in the coming years.
