Deng Thick is a display face from the eastern category, imitating the look of brush-painted Asian calligraphy with Latin letters. The strokes are thick, ink-like and tapered, with sharp pointed ends, hooked terminals and uneven, wavering edges; capitals and lowercase share one set of forms, and the figures are bold and angular. Latin only.
The look is associated with martial-arts posters, takeaway menus, tea and noodle packaging and travel brochures. Use it for titles and short words at a large size, in black or red. The style is a Western imitation of Asian lettering rather than real writing, so use it with care, and avoid it for long text because the spiky strokes tire the eye.
